Reading books with my boy

Something quite magical is happening at bedtimes in the Bell house.

My son has discovered that he likes chapter books.

It took me all of 10 seconds to dig out my favourite ever book to read to him.

I’ve tried before but he was too young. Needless to say, I was ready and waiting for this moment.

At 7pm every night, me and him go and snuggle down in bed with The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton.

I am loving bringing Moon-Face and Silky to life with him.

We wore saucepans on our heads when we were reading about Old Saucepan Man.

I’ve always been a creative person and loved and still love using my imagination to conjure things up for us to make, eat and of course, make for Baba+Boo.

This book was beginning of using my imagination and always has been an inspiration to me.

You only have to look at the Baba+Boo Enchanted Woodland photo shoot to see how much it inspires me still.

So as we are all curled up with me reading aloud, I can see him looking out of the window at the trees outside and I wonder what is happening in his brain, is he wondering if there are elves in the tree outside. It’s so very magical.

Reading to your children is one of the most important things you can do as a parent and I have to say it gets better as they get older.

Probably because the stories get better and the cuddles get longer.

The best thing about this new bedtime routine is that it is just me and my boy.

Daddy and Boo read in a seperate room, with her reading to him.

She has never liked be read to really.

So she has no interest in The Enchanted Wood.

Hopefully one day she will but for now, I treasure our time with my boy.
